Mission & Services

Our Mission
The Arlington Life Shelter shepherds homeless men, women and children towards a lifestyle of self-sufficiency.

Our Approach
The Arlington Life Shelter is not just a place to stay and get a meal.  It is a place to begin removing the roadblocks and rebuilding the confidence and skills required to return to self-sufficiency.  The Board of Directors, volunteers and staff have high expectations for the homeless men, women and children served by the agency, giving them constant support to meet those expectations.

Developing an effective, therapeutic relationship with each individual or family member is the most essential component of the services provided at the Arlington Life Shelter.  Staff members partner with each resident to develop a measurable service plan focusing on their strengths, their abilities to grow and their capacities to take control of their lives.  A coordinated, team approach is used to identify and address all of the needs of residents in a flexible, holistic manner

Our Services
Homeless men, women and children can receive up to 72 hours of emergency shelter or enter the structured nine-week rehabilitative program to work toward self-sufficiency. Job placement and retention are the focus of the agency’s structured program, supported by case management, counseling, mental health and substance abuse services, educational classes, transitional housing and children’s therapeutic programming.

Basic Needs: Shelter, meals and support are provided to homeless men, women and children through a 72-hour emergency stay or a structured nine-week program designed to return them to self-sufficiency.

Children’s Services: Infant, children and teens receive comprehensive services in a safe, friendly environment to help them develop the skills and resiliency needed to live in their unpredictable, uncontrollable world.

Education Services: Educational classes for adults are provided on-site at the shelter and include topics such as financial management, interpersonal communication, personal health, parenting and computer skills.  Children receive computer instruction and tutoring daily.

Employment Placement and Coaching: Individualized job placement and coaching services ensure that residents meet the requirement of being employed within four weeks of beginning the program.

Mental Health Services: Residents with major mental health issues are linked with a psychiatrist in Fort Worth via secure computer lines and provided prescribed medication, enabling them to work within four weeks of beginning the program. An onsite psychiatric nurse monitors their progress and a licensed counselor is available to provide individual, family and group counseling services for adults and children.

Social Work Services: Comprehensive social work services help clients identify and overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.

Transitional Housing Program: Individuals and families qualifying for the Transitional Housing Program can receive rent assistance and continued case management for up to two years.
